Latest News from India

The Vocationist Fathers began their mission in India in 1996. The first group of ten aspirants for the priesthood were accepted and began their formation in June of that same year in a house the Fathers rented from the Diocese of Thrissur. The following year, another group of ten young men joined the already established Vocationary and they moved to Thalore where the Fathers had purchased a piece of Land and a temporary building housed them there.

The construction of the permanent building of the Vocationary began immediately. This new building was dedicated in May 1999. Presently the Vocationary is housing candidates to the priesthood, and with its three floors already completed and the construction of the fourth floor in progress, it has the capacity to house over 60 students.

The Novitiate opened in India at the Vocationary on May 10, 1999 with eleven novices. At the end of the year of novitiate they will take their first temporary Vows which will be renewed for three years before taking perpetual vows. After the novitiate they will attend the major seminary of the Archdiocese of Thrissur which is located in the city of Thrissur itself, no far from the Vocationary in Thalore.

The work of the Vocationist Fathers in India is truly bearing abundant fruits. In only nine years the Fathers were able to recruit so many candidates for the priesthood and the prospective for many more to enter the Vocationary in Thrissur is very good. The work of promoting Vocations to the priesthood and religious life is very hopeful in India, especially in the sate of Kerala. While vocations are scarce in many parts of the world, God's call is finding, in Kerala, India, many generous young men responding to his invitation to serve God and his people as priests.                             Return to Top
